C.T.O.S: Everyone Forms a Larger Part

I can still remember vividly that bright afternoon in my O’ level biology class, my class lecturer was talking about cellular organization, and how everything forms a complex and inextricable part of the organism as a whole. I really did not ascribe any philosophical meaning to this fact as I felt I just have to study hard to get good grades and make my parents proud, so that at the end of the term, they will give me a good reward for hard study.
The C.T.O.S (actually an acronym for Cell-Tissues-Organs-System) forms the major backbone of biochemical advancement, and its concept is simple: It simply means that living organisms are constructed in a hierarchical manner. Anatomical and cytological studies have shown that multi-cellular organisms are organization of ORGANS which are made up of TISSUES consisting of CELLS composed of SUB-CELLULAR ORGANELLES. And taking a critical look at this concept, I discovered that there are lots of hidden pearls in it. I discovered that everything in the body is an off shoot of the cell, and without cells, there will be no tissues (because tissues are collections of cells working in a similar pattern – e.g. hepatocytes- liver cells; erythrocytes-red blood cells; and leukocytes-white blood cells), and without tissues (e.g. bones) there won’t be organs (liver, heart), and without them, no systems (e.g. digestive system which consists of the mouth, and gastro-intestinal tract).
Having come to this realization, I was compelled to see life in a whole new perspective; a perspective that describes everybody as a cell – a small, yet vital part of unity in our world. I believe w should get to a point whereby we see that for every of our actions, over a thousand and one people we’ve never met before are connected to us. When we begin to see this big vision, having mutual respect, value, and esteem for everyone around us wouldn’t seem too big a deal to be done. I believe this will help foster love rather than preach religion, differences, and segregation amongst mankind.
Like I said in my earlier post, life is meant is meant to function in the pattern of our body chemistry. The creator so made this, such that we can look inside ourselves, and get to prototype for peaceful living. Imagine what will happen if the digestive system goes to war with the respiratory system? Then death is inevitable to the organism as a whole. Likewise when we live in disunity, we are only trying to hurt mankind as a whole, and from my point of view, it’s not fair.

Biochemistry and life

Just last week, I completed my Biochemistry course that spanned for five years. When I first got admitted into the university I felt I was out of place. I felt as if the same fate that befalls many Nigerians has befallen me, and it’s the fact that many people seldom get to study their course of choice in the university due to the dense population and limited Universities available – little did I know that I was going to love the course.
During my five years of study, I got to discover that there is a lot similitude between biochemistry and life. I came to appreciate the beauty of our creator – the way He fashioned everything in our body, following great principles of precision, organization, excellence, and dependability; it then began to dawn on me that life is meant to function the way our cells, tissues, and organs function.
The whole principle of biochemistry is based on relationship and interdependence, where every cell functions to its optimum capacity, knowing that its inability to function properly will have drastic effect, not only on itself, but on its fellow cells, thereby affecting the tissue it is a part of, then to the organ and to the entire body as a whole. I discovered that the whole parts of the human body have this consciousness, and will always thrive to function with precision. It then dawned on me that if we can embrace the normality of how life should function by studying how our body operates and applying it to our everyday lives; if we can accept that we are an integral part of this world we live in and strive to make it a better place, then the results we get from life will be great, rewarding, refreshing, and full of serendipity.
So all I’ll be sharing in this blog will be all I’ve learned so far (and will learn) about Biochemistry and its application to life’s issues (leadership, love, relationships and self mastery). I’m certain you’ll enjoy the ride on life’s roller coaster.
Enjoy!!!
